The Why

In 2008, during the financial crisis, our founder’s father abruptly took her family to his home village in Kurram, part of what is Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). She was 14 years old, and her education was taken away from her. At an age when she should have been going to school and imagining her future, she was wondering whether she would ever return to the United States to continue her education.

She still remembers that fear and uncertainty. She knows what it feels like to want to learn and have that opportunity taken out of her hands. She also knows how much can change when one is granted another chance.

Her return to the United States in 2010 was a miracle she remains grateful for. With the chance to continue her education, she earned her bachelor’s degree at Virginia Tech and became a first-generation college graduate. She helped her family find greater stability and later earned her master’s in nonprofit leadership at the University of Pennsylvania. Today, as a Korean–Pakistani American and founder of New Horizons Impact Group, LLC, she hopes to help more girls access the opportunities that changed her life.

Her younger siblings in Pakistan remind her how much access to education still matters. She’s spent countless early mornings tutoring them over video calls, working through lessons on one shared cellphone screen with an unreliable internet connection. Those calls have made her think about all the girls whose desire to learn is there, but whose opportunities are limited.

That experience is the inspiration behind the New Horizons Impact Fund.

We are developing the fund to help girls in Pakistan access education and continue learning when financial circumstances would otherwise stand in their way. Our goal is to support school expenses such as tuition, books, uniforms, and transportation, and eventually offer scholarships for college and vocational training.

This work is about girls having a say in their own futures. Being able to discover their interests, pursue meaningful work, support themselves, and make decisions about their lives. More girls need to experience the confidence that comes from learning something new and realizing they are capable of more than they knew.

We plan to build this work alongside trusted educators and local partners, with clear eligibility criteria based on educational barriers and financial need, an independent selection process, and ongoing accountability for how funds are used.

We are at the beginning, and we welcome people who want to help us build it. If you are an educator, a potential partner, or someone who shares this commitment to girls’ education, we would love to connect.

Education changed the course of our founder’s life. Through the New Horizons Impact Fund, she hopes to help more girls continue their education, build the futures they envision, and create

We believe education is a fundamental human right. Every person, regardless of where they’re born or what they have, deserves the chance to learn, grow, and shape their own future.

Access to Education

We work to remove the barriers that keep girls from learning. That means supporting access to schools, learning materials, and scholarships, and working with families and communities so that sending a daughter to school feels possible and worthwhile. Every girl who learns builds a stronger future for herself, her family, and her community.

Mental Health Support

We create safe, judgment-free spaces where girls can talk openly and feel heard. By connecting girls with counseling, peer support, and tools for resilience, and by helping families and communities understand that mental health matters, we help girls build the confidence and emotional strength to face challenges and pursue their goals.

Woman’s Leadership

We help girls discover their voice and recognize their own potential. Through mentorship, skill-building, and connections with women role models, we prepare the next generation to speak up, make decisions, and lead with confidence, whether in a classroom, a business, or the halls of government.
